Traditional cameras have fallen by the wayside because of smartphonesâthe iPhone in particular. The iPhone has slowly become the most common camera device for the average consumer, and that change in the market is a result of the productâs great camera hardware and software. It is always expected Apple will improve the iPhoneâs camera with each generation, and that appears to be true with the upcoming iPhone 6.
A new report from Digi-wo claims the iPhone 6 camera will use Sonyâs 13-megapixel Exmor IMX220 sensor. That sensor is capable of recording 1080p video with a 3840-by-1080 total resolution. It isnât clear from where this leak is sourced, but reports claim it was provided by a distinguished leaker along Appleâs supply chain.
The iPhone 6 is set to launch later this year, so many of the most recent rumors and reports are more likely to be true given that the iPhone 6 is reportedly near completion.
For comparison, the Exmor sensor expected to be in the iPhone 6 is also used in Sonyâs Xperia Z3. Even though that phone has higher photo specs (20MP rather than 13MP), it should be just as good in certain lighting conditions where the iPhone has historically struggled.
