Canon EOS 1200D camera launched in India for Rs 30995

eos-1200dkit-2Canon has updated its DSLR line-up with the introduction of a new entry-level DSLR, the EOS 1200D. As the name suggests, it succeeds the EOS 1100D both in terms of specs and positioning. Targeted at first time DSLR adopters and those who are migrating from point and shoot cameras, the EOS 1200D packs decent features at an affordable price.

The EOS 1200D body only is available for Rs 30,995, while the basic kit (EOS 1200D body and EF-S 18-55 IS II lens) is available for Rs 34,995 and Kit II (EOS 1200D body, EF-S 18-55 IS II and EF-S 55-250 IS II lenses) for Rs 39,995.

Most of the internals of the EOS 1200D come from the very successful EOS 600D, bar the articulated screen of the latter. The EOS 1200D uses an 18-megapixel APS-C sized CMOS sensor, a 9-point AF system (centre AF point being cross type), a 63 zone metering system, and the ubiquitous  DIGIC 4 processor. The camera can record Full HD (1920×1080 pixels) video at 30fps, and boasts a maximum burst speed of 3 frames per second. Native ISO on the camera ranges from 100 to 6400 both in image and video modes.

In terms of competition, the main rival is the Nikon D3300, which offers better specifications: a 24-megapixel sensor, a continuous shooting rate of up to 5fps, and the ability to shoot 1080p videos at up to 60fps. The Nikon D3300 is available at a marginally higher price tag of Rs 32,450 for the body only.
