Both phones are dust-water resistant and run on the same version of the Android operating system. But we’ll compare these phones to see which one of them is better.

Displays and designs

If they wouldn’t be made by two rival companies, we’d think that there’s a happy “coincidence” that their screens and resolutions are identical, both phones coming with a 5-inch screen and a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels.

In terms of dimensions, the Samsung Galaxy S4 is slightly smaller, measuring 136.6×69.8×7.9 mm and weighting 130 grams, while the Sony Xperia Z is 16 grams heavier because it’s obviously bigger, measuring 139x71x7.9 mm.

Hardware and operating systems

The Samsung Galaxy S4 was created to work with two variants of processors: a 1.6 GHz

quad core cortex-A15 and a 1.2 GHz quad-core cortex-A7, with the same Exynos 5 Octa 5410 chipset. The Sony Xperia Z is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad core Krait processor and has a Qualcomm MDM9215M / APQ8064 chipset, plus one variant of internal storage – 8 GB, expandable also by up to 64 GB.

Both smartphones are Androids and run on the 4.2 version with 2 GB of RAM, only that the S4 has Touchwiz user interface, while the Xperia Z has the Sony UI user interface.

Cameras

Both smartphones have cameras with many features in common, but they’re slightly different. And this is because Samsung Galaxy S4’s primary camera is of 13 MP, and the phone has a 2 MP secondary camera, while the Sony Xperia Z’s primary camera is of 13.1 MP primary camera, and the secondary camera is more advanced also, of 2.2 MP.

Batteries

You can talk 17 hours on 3G or you can listen to music for 62 hours on the Galaxy S4, which comes with a Li-Ion battery that has a capacity of 2600 mAh. The Sony Xperia Z’s battery, which is non-removable and has a capacity of 2330 mAh, allows you to talk only 14 hours on 3G, or to listen to music for 40 hours.
