Canon 1D X Mk II and 5D Mk IV Rumored for Early 2015

The Canon rumor mill has been doing overtime in recent weeks, with various sites (Northlight Images, Canon Rumors) reporting some juicy new sensor technology in the works. Now some commentators are suggesting that this groundbreaking tech might be making its way into the EOS-1D X Mark II and EOS-5D Mark IV—appearing in late 2014 or early 2015. This is much the same speculation that has been swirling around the much-anticipated APS-C flagship EOS-7D Mark II.

According to the rumor-mongers poring over Canon’s recent patents, an “organic electrochromic compound” providing high transparency and exceptionally efficient light transmittance could well be key to the sensor design innovations that Canon has up its sleeves. It remains to be seen how exactly that translates into picture quality or low-light performance.

So if you’re a Canon fan holding off that next big camera-body purchase, make sure you keep a close eye on DPG. We’ll be reporting the latest as it happens!
