Photographic competition winners receive their prizes

The talented winners of The Daventry Express 2014 Photographic Competition received their prizes this week.



Run in association with Specsavers in Daventry, amateur photographers were invited to enter the competition with the brief of capturing the essence of Daventry or surrounding area.


From scores of entries, a winner and runner up from each of the adult and junior categories has been selected. The junior winner is nine-year-old Sam Green of Braunston Lane, Staverton.He was presented with a Pentax Optio WG3 camera worth £240. While the senior winner, Paul Dwyer, of Lang Farm, Daventry, received a Pentax K500 with 18-55mm DAL lens worth £450. They also received an enlarged framed copy of their photos.


Sam said: “I was really excited and jumped up and down.”


Paul said: “I got to work and everyone said congratulations who knew before I did. It was a lovely surprise.”


The two runners-up also received framed prints. They are 15-year-old Ben Bray of The Mounts, Long Buckby and, in the adult category, Julia Blease, of Navigation Way, Weedon.


Julia said: “I didn’t expect to be a runner up. My children are really proud of me which is lovely.”


Gusher deputy editor Amanda Chalmers, who co-judged the competition, said: “We have been delighted by the number of entries received. Local people clearly took the brief to heart and produced some fantastic photos.


“It was a difficult decision but the shortlisted photos were then selected by a professional photographer who was impressed by the high standard.


“Many thanks to everyone who entered. We are hoping to repeat the competition again next year so there’ll be another chance to win!”
