Robert Downey Jr. has shared his first photo from the set of ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ – and it’s (ahem) thrilling stuff.
Sporting the essential Tony Stark beard and a characteristically extravagant purple shirt beneath a somewhat less decorative reflective safety jacket, Downey strikes a classic chin-stroking pose alongside his considerably less recognisable executive producer Jeremy Latcham.
So what does this tell us about ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ I hear you ask…? Why, absolutely nothing, but since did that matter with this sort of thing?
Downey shared the image via Twitter, in what was only his tenth post on the social network. Not that this relative inactivity has dented his popularity at all; less than two weeks since his first tweet, he’s already amassed over 1.37 million followers.
Whilst paparazzi shots of Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson shooting a scene have been widely circulated online already, this is the first image to have officially been released by someone on the Marvel sequel team.
If nothing else, it would certainly seem to suggest that Downey is still bringing his trademark signature wit to what will be his fifth turn as Tony Stark (or sixth if you want to count his very brief cameo in ‘The Incredible Hulk’).
It would also suggest something potentially hazardous may be going on nearby, what with the fluorescent overcoats – but no great shocker there, what with it being a multi-million dollar superhero action epic.
The globe-trotting production spearheaded by writer-director Joss Whedon is (unless I’m mistaken) now getting underway in the UK, following photography in South Africa and South Korea.
Now the next question is – can we expect more such candid set snaps from Downey between now and the movie’s release date next summer? And if so, might some of them show us just a wee bit more than this…?
Does this first look at Robert Downey Jr. back in Stark mode get you all excited for ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron?’ Or does it take more than a Hollywood megastar in a fluorescent jacket to really fire you up? Let us know in the comments section below.
