A couple of days ago, we reported about Samyang’s upcoming big announcement. Back then, word had it that besides a new logo, the company might (finally) be announcing some autofocus lenses. As it turns out, though, the main announcement of today is a new 12mm f/2 lens for APS-C mirrorless cameras, plus some overhauls to older lens models.
Designed for APS-C-sized sensors, the new 12mm f/2 lens has an angle-of-view equivalent to that of an 18mm lens on 35mm full-frame. Used on a Micro Four Thirds camera, the angle-of-view will be equivalent to that of a 24mm lens. The 12mm f/2 NCS CS comes with Samyang’s nanocrystal anti-reflective coating, and sports 12 lens elements in 10 groups. With two aspherical and one ED glass element, the lens was designed to deliver enough sharpness even for sensors with a resolution of 24 megapixels and up. It will be available later this month in Canon EF-M, Fujifilm X, Micro Four Thirds, Sony E and Samsung NX mount, at a retail price of US$399.
In addition to the new 12mm f/2 lens, Samyang has overhauled its 8mm f/2.8 fisheye lens and the 8mm T3.1 cine counterpart. Both lenses now feature additional ED glass and aspherical elements, with a total of now 11 lens elements in 8 groups, with three ED glass elements and two aspherical lenses. Both lenses will be available later this month in Canon M, Fujifilm X, Micro Four Thirds, Sony E and Samsung NX mounts. The 8mm f/2.8 UMC Fish-Eye II will retail for US$349, wheres its cine counterpart, the 8mm T3.1 Cine UMC Fish-Eye II, will retail for US$399.
Back in December, Samyang announced a 10mm f/2.8 lens for both mirrorless and DSLR cameras, and it seems this lens will also finally be available towards the end of the month. The 10mm f/2.8Â ED AS NCS SC also features the nanocrystal anti-reflective coating, and sports two aspherical and one ED glass element with a total of 14 lens elements in 10 groups. Coming in at US$529, it will be avilable in most common DSLR and mirrorless mounts:Â Canon EF, Canon M, Fujifilm X, Nikon F (DX), Four Thirds, Micro Four Thirds, Pentax K, Sony Alpha, Sony E and Samsung NX.
Finally, the company has made some of its older offerings available in additional mounts. The 24mm f/1.4 and 35mm f/1.4 lenses will now also be available in Micro Four Thirds and Sony E mount, whereas their respective cine lens counterparts, the 24mm T1.5 and the 35mm T1.5, will be available in Micro Four Thirds mount. Additionally, the 14mm T3.1 and 85mm T1.5 cine lenses will also be available for Micro Four Thirds cameras. This is a clever move from Samyang, seeing that the Pansonic GH4 is currently the most affordable 4K-capable mirrorless camera.
The Samyang 24mm f/1.4 for Micro Four Thirds and Sony E comes in at US$549, it T1.5 cine counterpart at US$749. The 35mm f/1.4 and T1.5 models retail for US$499 (f/1.4) and US$549 (T1.5) respectively. Finally, the 14mm T3.1 cine lens for Micro Four Thirds will be available for US$449, and the 85mm T1.5 for Micro Four Thirds has a price tag of US$ 349.
