Friday’s here, and it’s time for your weekly firmware fix! This week, it’s all about the mirrorless cameras. Fujifilm fields a raft of updates that improve image quality for its X-mount cameras and lenses, and Nikon resolves a GPS issue for its groundbreaking waterproof, shockproof AW1 mirrorless camera.
In all, Fuji has updated five cameras and three lenses, all in its X-series mirrorless line. The Fujifilm X-A1, X-E1, X-E2, X-M1, and X-Pro1 all get improved autoexposure accuracy with the XF56mm f/1.2 R lens, and the X-E2 also gets improved autofocus with the same optic.
There are also firmware updates for three zoom lenses — the Fujinon XC16-50mm f/3.5-5.6, XF18-55mm f/2.8-4, and XF55-200mm f/3.5-4.8. All three get better optical stabilization during still image shooting, and when panning or tilting the camera during movie shooting. An issue is also corrected whereby the 16-50mm lens could report the wrong aperture, and autofocus response has been improved on the X-E2 and X-T1 bodies for the other two lenses.
