FINALISTS OF THE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELLER (UK) PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION 2014 REVEALED. WINNER TO BE ANNOUNCED AT THE TELEGRAPH OUTDOOR ADVENTURE TRAVEL SHOW ON 15 FEBRUARY

LONDON (10 FEBRUARY 2014) — National Geographic Traveller (UK) has confirmed the finalists of its annual Photography Competition 2014. The winner will be announced at the Telegraph Outdoor Adventure Travel Show on 15 February 2014.



As a leader in breathtaking, you-are-there photography from across the world, National Geographic Traveller launched its photo competition last September in association with Quark Expeditions. UK photographers were asked to submit their entries in one of six categories: Action, City, Iconic, Modern, Natural, and People.



Pat Riddell, Editor, National Geographic Traveller said: “Once again, we’ve had a great response to our annual Photography Competition, and the creativity and photographic quality has been fantastic. Thank you to all those who entered.”



The winner will be announced during a presentation of the shortlisted winning entries at 12pm on 15 February.



The six finalists (category winners) will also have their winning shots on display. They are:

Action: Jonathan Carvajal and his shot, The Colour Run, in Colombia.

City: Lynda Cosgrave and her image, Times Square in Blue.

Iconic: David Strearne and The Cutty Sark, taken in Greenwich.

Modern: Jenny Downing and Oslo’s Opera House AND Dylan Camilleri and The Cube in Birmingham.

Natural: Jamie MacArthur and his Kingfisher, shot in Norfolk.

People: George Turnbull with his image of a girl at Angkor Wat, Cambodia.



The independent judging panel consisted of Carol Enquist, National Geographic’s photo editor; Paul Goldstein, a wildlife photographer regular contributor to National Geographic Traveller (UK); and travel photographer Richard James Taylor. National Geographic Traveller’s art editor Chris Hudson devised the shortlist and made the final decision.
