Samsung Galaxy Zoom, Sony Honami and More – Smartphone Cameras Get ...

Samsung Galaxy Zoom, Sony Honami and More Smartphone Cameras Get SeriousTake a look at the crowd-pleasing features served up by the HTC One, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Sony Xperia Z and you’ll notice a pattern – the world is in love with beyond high-end camera technology.

We’ve now reached a point in time where most top-tier Smartphone users are almost entirely retiring their standalone digital cameras, having found that the phone in their pocket can near-enough outperform them. Sure there may be a few limitations in terms of functionality and scope, but what’s clear is that regardless of all the CPU power and screen-size increases in the world, camera quality is where it’s at for future Smartphones.

And this certainly doesn’t seem to have passed some of the biggest names in the business by – here’s a few example of the kind of snap-happy advances to expect in the coming months:

Sony Honami

The Sony Honami is anything but confirmed in an official capacity, but has been swirling around the ranks of the rumor mill for months. Apparently destined to take the crown from the Xperia Z, the Sony Honami is earmarked for planet-moving power and a truly stunning array of features.

However, of all the specs one of the most compelling of all is mention of a 1.6-megapixel camera sensor transplanted directly from Sony’s Cyber-Shot camera division. Along with a new-generation flash and massive software improvements, the Sony Honami looks set to be a game-changer.

Google Nexus 5

There are actually two camera-based rumors surrounding the unannounced Google Nexus 5 – the first of which being the inclusion of a unique Nikon lens. When and where the new Nexus 5 does eventually launch, it’s expected to be branded six ways from Sunday to let everyone know it’s carrying the fingerprints of Nikon, which should amount to pretty impressive snaps to say the least.

Secondly – and admittedly a little harder to grasp – there’s also talk of a unique feature that uses GPS to track the location of the user, factor in the weather and automatically adjust the camera to the most appropriate settings. Something that would be a cool trick, if only the weathermen knew what they were talking about.

Optical Zoom Samsung Galaxy

Last but not least, word on the street is that Samsung’s next revolution in Smartphone design will see an optical zoom lens incorporated in a Galaxy handset for the very first time. This has become something of a given for the marker as a whole, though it’s looking increasingly likely that Samsung will in this instance get there first.
