Just four weeks after it dropped final versions of Camera Raw and DNG Converter supporting the Sony A7S and RX100 III, Adobe is back with another round of release candidates. This time, it’s the Nikon D810, Panasonic GH4 and Panasonic FZ1000 receiving some love, with raw support for all three cameras arriving in Camera Raw 8.6 RC and DNG Converter 8.6 RC.
As well as support for these three cameras, Adobe has also added camera matching color profiles for the three Sony camera models whose support arrived with the previous release candidate — the Sony A7S, RX100 III, and A77 II. There are also new lens profiles for 18 new lenses on six different mounts. And if you’re a Photoshop Creative Cloud subscriber with a 64-bit system, you’ll find improved performance when batch-processing in Camera Raw. The same is true when converting files with DNG Converter on 64-bit systems, although no Creative Cloud subscription is needed for this.
Adobe has also squashed a few bugs in these new releases, including the following:
A launch crash on some High DPI systems.
A crash when opening certain raw files from the Sigma SD9.
Incorrect formatting of JPEG images saved by Camera Raw, preventing some external apps from opening the images.
.3FR-format Raw images from the Hasselblad H5D-50c and H5D-60 appeared too dark. Existing images may need to be reprocessed after the Camera Raw cache is purged.
Automatic lens profile selection didn’t work for the Leica M (Typ 240) with current firmware installed.
These issues should all now be resolved in Camera Raw 8.6 RC. The DNG Converter update, meanwhile, includes the new camera support of Camera Raw 8.6 RC and the improved 64-bit performance, but no other changes. As has been the case with previous Camera Raw release candidates so far this year, there is no matching release candidate version for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, although based on the company’s usual approach, we can expect to see support for these new cameras and lens profiles in the photographer-centric app whenever its next update is released.
