Two weeks after introducing release candidate versions of updates to Photoshop Camera Raw and DNG Converter, Adobe has swiftly taken both to final release status — and there’s also a new Lightroom update for good measure. In the process, Adobe has added support for even more new camera models in the earlier release candidates. (And in a nice piece of perfect timing, both the Sony A7S and Sony RX100 III are on the list, meaning that you’ll now be able to convert the raw files we recently published for both cameras, regardless of whether you’re on a current or older Photoshop version. Note, however, that there’s a known bug in RX100 III support; more on that in a moment.)
As well as the A7S and RX100 III, the final release software now supports the Nikon S2, Pentax 645Z, Samsung NX3000 and Sony A77 II. And of course, it retains the release candidate versions’ support for the Canon G1 X Mark II, Fujifilm S1, Nikon J4, Nikon V3, Olympus E-M10, and Panasonic GH4. Note also that the GH4 is no longer listed as having only preliminary support, so Adobe now seems happy with the quality of its work for this particular model.
Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.5 also supports one more lens profiles than did the release candidate, with the Sony Alpha 28-75mm F2.8 SAM lens being new to the list. The full selection of newly-supported lens models in Camera Raw 8.5 and Lightroom 5.5 follows below:

Other changes in Camera Raw 8.5 include the ability to modify masks for the graduated and radial filters with a brush, and to visualize the mask for either filter. There’s also a new per-panel toggle button that will reset all values for a given panel to the camera raw defaults on the first press, and then restore your manually-edited settings with a second press. All of these new features apply only if you’re using the subscription-only Photoshop CC release, and are disabled for Photoshop CS6 owners.
Bug fixes in the new release resolve issues with raw images from the Fuji X-T1 mirrorless camera and nine older Nikon DSLRs. Previously, X-T1 images shot with 200% or 400% Dynamic Range settings could appear too bright when using sensitivities above ISO 1600. For the Nikon D1, D1H, D1X, D2H, D2Hs, D2X, D2Xs, D100 and D200, meanwhile, some raw images would open as random noise, and others would result in an error dialog. This has been fixed, but you’ll need to clear your Camera Raw cache to be able to open these troublesome shots. And finally, an issue with application of spot healing to floating point HDR imagery has been resolved, correcting the earlier, noisy results.
Unfortunately, a new issue has been introduced which Adobe says it knows about, and is working to resolve. It’s specific to the Sony RX100 III support, and results in images shot at ISO 125 being too dark.
Lightroom 5.5 includes no new features beyond the added camera support, but does fix a raft of bugs. These iclude the same three mentioned for Camera Raw, as well as the following: the Develop module is now more responsive during Lightroom Mobile sync; Custom Develop module default settings now sync to Lightroom Mobile; the initial render in Develop no longer looks posterized; the Undo function no longer applies a preset instead of undoing; 200% scaling now works as intended in Windows; manual slideshows now advance to the next slide properly; aspect ratio no longer changes when a crop is rotated; and Leica S tethered shooting no longer flips back and forth between landscape and portrait orientation when the camera is rotated.
