Wish You Were Here: Win £2500 with your sea photo

Spurn Point has been crafted by the ominous power of the North Sea only to be destroyed at regular intervals by storm surges and destructive tides.

Here, in this beautiful ­photograph, John Leigh has caught the grandeur of Spurn’s sandy shoreline with its anglers and famous lighthouse as it juts out on the north bank of the Humber estuary.

John’s photo is one of the early ­entries in our annual Wish You Were Here ­competition, run in association with Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky.

Last year the UK’s largest maritime photography contest attracted more than 2,000 entries. Simon Malik, of West Sussex, won with Beached, a colourful study of fishing boats in sunlight.

This year we are looking for high-quality, creative shots, particularly those that capture wildlife in their ­natural habitat and people enjoying Britain’s time-honoured relationship with the sea.

The winner gets £2,500 and a trip for two to Scotland’s Pulteney Distillery in Wick for a tour before filling their own bottle of Old Pulteney, known as the Maritime Malt.
