Sony has added another exciting camera to its A7 lineup with the unveiling of the A7s. Do not be fooled by the âsâ suffix though as this camera can be considered as superior to the A7 that was announced in October last year in the sense that the A7s can take 4K video.
The A7s only has a 12.2 MP sensor but is more than capable of handling low light shots. The ISO on this camera can reach up to a staggering 409600 whereas the A7R can only go up to 25600. Though this camera is capable of shooting really good stills, its pretty obvious that Sony is aiming for the videographers out there. For more shooting samples in low light, head on to Den Lennieâs site for his review.
Another notable feature for the serious videographers is the XAVC S format for video which offers high bit-rate. This is the first time the format is available on a Sony Alpha camera.
The camera accepts E-mount lens but users with Minolta/Konica Minolta A-mount lenses can also get an adaptor to continue using their lenses.
Hereâs a quick look at some of itâs specifications:
The Sony A7s will ship with with two batteries but Sony has yet to announce the price and availability of the camera. You can request to be notified when the camera makes an appearance on the Sony US store.
In the meantime, you can sample the video below which was taken with the A7s. The video itself can go up to 2160p (4K) resolution on Opera and Firefox but Chrome only allowed a maximum of 1080p. 4K playback wonât matter though as my laptop does not support it.
