Colorado Photographer Shares Successful Business Techniques

FORT COLLINS, Colo., May 6, 2014 /Emag.co.uk/ — Sean Lara is a professional photographer based in Northern Colorado who offers unique and artistic engagement, portrait and wedding photography. As a successful Denver Wedding Photographer, he has had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of clients and therefore has been provided with situations that have helped him learn the business through trial and error. Lara shares some techniques and tips on how to maintain happy photography clients and get referrals based off customer satisfaction to create a successful business.

Present Amazing Photography

Lara states that most photographers will agree that the first step to any successful photo career is to first become an exceptional wedding photographer. One doesn’t necessarily need to become the next Ansel Adams, but it’s important to get to the point where an aspiring professional can be comfortable enough with the quality of their work that they know clients will be extremely impressed. Ask others to critique work, but do not ask people you may know (ex. friends, family, significant others) to evaluate your work. Honest, blunt opinions are the only way one will become a better photographer. Learn from mistakes and improve upon successes. Lara also strongly recommends finding another professional who’s been in the industry for a long time to become a personal mentor; he or she can give business advice and critique work.

Court Your Clients

The next thing Lara strongly recommends is to court clients, as they are the lifeline to a business.

“It’s extremely important to court all of your clients,” Lara says. “By this I mean, call them regularly to talk about wedding plans, make sure to be available and responsive, and of course go the extra mile to make them happy.”

By courting clients and making them feel special, referrals will naturally come. Lara mentions that a referral is the best form of marketing you can get, as friends and family will be more willing to listen to each other. If budget allows, sending a hand-written thank you card or other thank you favors is always appreciated by a client and they will not forget it.

Highlight Your Reviews

Somewhere on a photographer’s website or place of business, there should be a place to highlight client reviews. This allows potential clients to get an idea of how their experience might be similar.

Utilize the Internet

The number one marketing and advertising tool today is the Internet. The vast majority of clients looking for photography services (or any service for that matter) will start their search on the Internet. Lara stresses how important it is to have a properly built and maintained website that looks professional and inviting.

“Your website is a reflection upon who you are as a photographer, and how you run your business,” says Lara. “Even if your photographs are great, if your website is designed poorly, potential clients may expect a poor level of service.”

In addition to the website, a professional photographer will need to learn marketing techniques to help bring clients in. Utilizing search engine optimization, building relationships with other vendors and advertising on popular websites will help “bring the client to you”.

Start by implementing these techniques and Lara says you’ll be on the right track to a successful photography business. To see Sean’s portfolio, please visit http://seanlara.com/denver-wedding-photography
