One would say that the $8,499.95 price of the Pentax 645Z is a bit too much to handle, but for a camera that’s built on the medium format standard, it’s an extremely cheap option for its rare category of customers. The Pentax brand has a rich history and Ricoh has borrowed the design cues of this model from two of its popular past products, Pentax 645D and the Pentax 645.
This new shooter comes equipped with a pretty decent array of specs. It abandons the CCD sensor of its predecessor to grab a CMOS unit of 51.4MP in capacity. It’s sized at 44 x 33 millimeters and this is what gives this camera the medium format distinction.
The Pentax 645Z is the first in its category to offer full HD video recording capability which has become a norm for all digital cameras coming out these days. Users will have the option of shooting at 24p, 25p, 30p, 50i and 60i frame-rates.
A 3.2-inch tiltable TFT color LCD monitor also finds its way onto the camera, apart from the ability to click 3 photos per second. The Wi-Fi-capable Pentax 645Z is built using a magnesium alloy frame and a diecast aluminum chassis which helps it gain 76 weather-seals for protection against cold and dust.
The Pentax 645Z will be released in body-only form during June of this year. It will be made available at a category-low price of $8,499.95.
