Grasshopper3 USB3 Camera with Sony"s 5MP CCD

The new Grasshopper3 GS3-U3-50S5 camera

Point Grey, a designer and manufacturer of high-performance digital cameras, announced the addition of two new 5 megapixel global shutter CCD models to its Grasshopper3 family of USB3 Vision cameras.

The new Grasshopper3 GS3-U3-50S5 camera models are based on color and monochrome versions of the popular Sony ICX625, a 2/3″ CCD sensor capable of streaming 2448 x 2048 resolution images at 15 FPS. This combination of sensor format, resolution and frame rate have resulted in widespread adoption of this device in a variety of applications including optical inspection, 3D imaging, intelligent traffic systems and much more. The GS3-U3-50S5 offers existing Sony ICX625 sensor users a transitional path to USB 3.0 without affecting optics or imaging performance.

Like all Point Grey USB 3.0 cameras, the Grasshopper3 uses a proprietary USB 3.0 link layer and frame buffer-based architecture for optimal performance and reliability. The Grasshopper3 uses an advanced image processing pipeline to enable color interpolation, look up table, gamma correction, pixel binning and USB3 Vision support.

The GS3-U3-50S5M-C (2/3-inch 5MP CCD 15 FPS) is list priced at $2,595 / €2095 and is available to order now from Point Grey, its network of distributors, and the online store (for North American, Australian, and EU customers).
