When Sony announced their all new QX100 and QX10 lens cameras, it seems that many of you were smelling what they were cooking. So much in fact that the lens cameras have already begun selling out online.
Jumping onto Amazon, you’ll find that the higher-end QX100 model — the one packing the same sensor as found on the Sony RX100MII — has completely sold out. The listing from Focus Camera is now showing the camera as available for pre-order (once again) at $498, only this time with an expected shipping date of October 15th (originally they were shipping on Sept 27th).
If you hurry, you might be able to snag the lower-end QX10 where it is only available in white for $248. Unfortunately it looks like the black model has also sold out, and is shipping Oct 15th if you pre-order right now. Of course, there are other options. It appears that Sony’s official online store still has the QX10 in both black and white still in stock but you better hurry (the QX100 is already out of stock).
Wow, didn’t expect such high-demand from Sony’s new lens cameras. While packing much of the punch as some of their point n’ shoots, these cameras still have their shortcomings. Besides being almost completely unpocketable (more so the QX100), these lens cameras are more or less geared to the casual user. Enthusiast shooters will find these cameras are missing some much needed camera features like:
- No shutter speed priority mode
- No manual priority mode
- No manual ISO changes
- No flash or auto-focus assist light
- No RAW
If you can live with all that, links have been provided to the appropriate online retailers where you can pick one up for yourself, or get in line for the next batch.
