Nikon presents two new Coolpix compact cameras

At a press briefing in London, Nikon announced two new compact cameras – the Coolpix P7800 and the Coolpix S02 – due to be released later this month.

The Coolpix P7800 is the successor to the Coolpix P7700 launched in August last year and has a built-in electronic viewfinder, an illuminated 12-megapixel CMOS sensor and a 28-200mm f/2.0-4.0 zoom Nikkor lens. The lens uses a seven-blade iris aperture, which says Nikon, gives “better background blur and super crisp focusing.”

Like its predecessor, the Coolpix P7800 has a 3-inch RGBW LCD vari-angle display with an ability to increase screen brightness. Capable of continuous shooting up to 8fps, the camera is RAW compatible and has full HD 1080p (25 or 30fps) video resolution with a built-in stereo microphone and external microphone output.

The new camera, which will be available in black, will retail at £499.99.
