I n a bid to address the dust speck issue of the much-criticised D600, there are rumours that Nikon will launch a successor, dubbed the D610 and another entry-level DSLR, the D5300.
According to a report by Nikon Rumours, the D5300 will be a slight improvement over its predecessor, the Nikon D5200. It could also come with built-in Wi-Fi and GPS functionality, although all of these features are only speculations at this point of time.
A new successor for the Nikon D600?
Â
The D610, on the other hand, seems to be a more interesting prospect from Nikonâs stable. It seems that the main motive behind the release of this new camera tilts more towards drowning down Nikon D600âs sensor oil issue that turned out to be a major factor for users not leaning towards purchasing the model.
The D600 was released in September last year and almost instantly issues with its sensor became evident. It took a while for this to happen, but Nikon finally admitted that there were issues with the camera in February this year, and issued an official service advisory. It didnât do much good since all the company advised users to do was to follow instructions in the manual related to the âClean Image Sensorâ function and clean it manually using a sensor. The company also advised users to get their cameras serviced if the dust became too bothersome.
The upcoming D610 from Nikon seems to be a damage control mechanism to fix issues pertaining to the bad reception D600 seems to have received. While the cameras and their features are not confirmed just yet, it looks plausible that Nikon will be releasing the D610 and the D5300 sometime soon.
